Featured within the SEHP plan are recommendations to combine and shift over the Sheridan Expressway, West farms Road, and Edgewater road where they meet. As the roads combine and shift over, this section is reduced from 11 lanes to five lanes, opening up 1,800 square feet of continuous waterfront access and the potential to develop community spaces and affordable housing.
The plan also features key land use changes to promote community centered development. Currently, the land along Edgewater Road is zoned for private manufacturing use, which blocks access to parks and waterfront. By changing the lands existing use from private manufacturing to mix-use, there is potential to develop deeply affordable housing and create economic opportunities for local jobs.
